What a year 2020 is! We discovered so much resilience and kindness in ourselves and others. It was especially awesome to see people coming together to help each other or to make sure they are doing their part. Businesses have also pivoted and evolved. We now have a new standard of customer service!
There is no going back. We can only continue to move forward. Do you work or study from home? How is your 2021 year looking so far? What are your plans?
The new year always comes with resolutions, because the whole year is open to us to make things happen!
Good luck! And in the meantime, here are our recommended tips and tools to help you succeed in 2021.
Make healthier choices
You've probably already purchased subscriptions on some weight loss or fitness apps. You're probably equipped with a smartwatch and a fitness tracker.
Did you know that experts actually advise against making a resolution to lose weight? It's true! So many articles talk about it. Instead, they recommend that you make a resolution to make healthier choices. Every day.
That means eating good food and cutting back on unhealthy foods, scheduling daily exercise, and saying no to things that take away from your personal time: your time for yourself, your family, and your sleep.
Does this give you any ideas now? And yes, you may want to refine your resolutions. Get into good habits!
Invest in apps and tools to reinforce good habits
Considering cycling as a daily workout? Get a waterproof bike rack !
Want to talk to your family and friends more? Get some phone and tablet holders that make you look good on video calls! These same holders are handy for recipes and cooking videos if you want to cook more. It's a great way to disconnect. Instead of ordering food or mindlessly scrolling through social media, you'd be making magic in your kitchen!
Want to be more productive? Get some handy apps and time trackers that can help you organize your day (and make you a little uncomfortable when you realize what you spent your time on).
It's all about setting yourself up for success.
Use your phone to track your progress. Sign up for apps like DietBet, Noom, Habitica that reward you and give you a sense of community and accountability. This is important!
When you reach a goal, it produces dopamine, the excitement chemical. This is the same chemical that all the Likes and Retweets on social media give you. From now on, make good use of this dopamine, it motivates you to keep going and makes you happy.
Remember the "why" of your resolutions
For companies, this is their "mission and vision." For your goals and resolutions, this is your primary motivation.
According to experts, your goals should be accompanied by the following:
We immediately Google when we want to start something. That's research. It's asking around. It's just to make sure you're doing it right. Who wants to waste time getting started on the wrong foot?
Repetition: that's why we need to make healthier choices. Choices by repetition become habits. Habits become your lifestyle, your lifestyle influences your choices. It's a virtuous cycle.
Accountability and reward: this is why you need to invest in apps and tools that allow a community of people to do the same. You can also talk to your friends and family about it so they can support you (and remind you to put down that piece of cake since you said you wanted to cut back on sugar!).
Reason is the one thing we often forget and lose sight of when we set goals.
WHY do you want to lose weight? Maybe because you want to be healthy so your children don't lose their parents early.
WHY do you want to be more productive? Maybe to get that promotion? Or maybe to prove to yourself that you can start your own business?
See? By digging into your WHY, your goals will be that much more attainable.
